Standing among her 6000 vines dripping in soon-to-be-picked grapes, winemaker Helen Gillard can’t help but compare her vineyard to a woman in her eighth month of pregnancy.

Veteran vigneron Bruce Tyrrell of Tyrrell’s Wines in Pokolbin, who is gearing up for his 55th vintage, is hoping for 30-degree days, 12-degree nights, with an odd shower to freshen his vines and give them “a good kick along”.
